Feel in Cute

Resale

Reselling clothes you no longer wear

Clothes in good condition can find a new owner instead of sitting in a closet. Selling well comes down to clean pieces, clear photos and honest descriptions.

Decide what to sell

After you review your wardrobe, sort the pieces you no longer wear. Clothes that are clean, complete and in good shape are easiest to sell. Pieces with heavy wear, stains or damage are better donated where the charity accepts them, recycled through a textile collection, or turned into cleaning cloths.

Ways to sell

OptionHow it usually worksThings to know
Consignment shopThe shop sells for you and shares the sale priceShops are selective and set their own terms. Ask how long items stay and what happens to unsold pieces.
Buy-back counterA shop pays you on the spot for what it acceptsFast and simple, but often pays less than selling yourself.
Online listingsYou photograph, list, sell and shipMore work and more control. Platforms charge fees and have their own rules.
Local sales and swapsYard sales, community groups and clothing swapsGood for bulk and basics. Swaps trade pieces instead of money.

Fees, rules and payment methods change, so read the current terms of any shop or platform before you start.

Prepare each piece

  1. Wash or clean it, following the care label.
  2. Remove pills and loose threads, and sew on any loose buttons.
  3. Press or steam out creases.
  4. Check pockets for anything left behind.

Photograph and measure

  • Shoot in daylight near a window, on a plain wall or hanger, without strong filters.
  • Show the front, the back, the fabric label and a close-up of any flaws.
  • Lay the piece flat and measure across the chest, waist and length. Buyers trust measurements more than size labels.
  • Describe the color in plain words, as screens show color differently.

Be honest about condition

Note every flaw you find: small marks, pilling, a missing spare button. Clear descriptions lead to fewer returns and happier buyers. Never claim a piece is new or unworn unless it truly is.

Stay safe and organized

When meeting a local buyer, choose a busy public place in daylight and bring someone with you if you can. Follow the payment and shipping rules of the platform you use, and be careful with requests to pay or talk outside it. Keep a simple record of what you sold and for how much. If you sell a lot, check your local tax rules or ask a tax professional.
